CITY — He missed 55 games last season and hadn't played in eight
long months and as soon as he finally stepped on the floor, Kevin
Durant learned that he needs ... more time.
Such is the cold slap in the face that awaits those who lose a
piece of their career to injury and also their touch and feel in
the process. That's what happened to a former MVP and scoring champ
Wednesday night in the season opener, where Durant met with that
and another harsh reality: Kawhi Leonard is officially a
handful.
It was a humbling return all around for Durant, who at one point,
after Leonard stopped him cold and then drilled him with an
18-footer, simply sighed and shook his head. There will be 81 more
games to grease the jumper, and reestablish his place in line among
the NBA greats, and thankfully for him, most will not be against
the reigning Defensive Player of the Year.
